Pro Tip

Visit during the day, as the gates close before sunset due to its haunted reputation and lack of electricity across the abandoned ruins.

Kuldhara is located about 19 km from Jaisalmer and is one of the most mysterious places in the region. Known as the β€œGhost Village,” Kuldhara was once a prosperous and well-settled village of the Paliwal Brahmins, holding a very special place in Jaisalmer tourism history.

Paliwal Brahmins established Kuldhara in the late 1200s. However, in the early 19th century, the villagers of Kuldhara along with 83 surrounding villages suddenly deserted the place overnight, and it has remained abandoned ever since. Today, it stands as a popular and deeply fascinating heritage spot in Jaisalmer tourism.

Walk through the perfectly preserved but completely empty stone houses. Look at the abandoned kitchens, the silent courtyard walls, and everything that was left behind 200 years ago. It remains a mysterious riddle where everyone vanished overnight without a single person seeing them leave.
