Tanot Mata Temple is located near the Indo-Pak border and is a strong symbol of faith and protection, making it a very important place in Jaisalmer tourism. This is the miraculous story that every tourist hears on the drive to Tanot.
The temple became famous during the 1965 Indo-Pak War. In Jaisalmer tourism history, it is remembered for the miracle that nearly 3,000 bombs were dropped here, but none of them exploded inside the temple area. It is deeply believed that the goddess protected both the temple and the Indian soldiers.
The Indian BSF soldiers stationed here took this as a sign of divine protection and fought with extraordinary courage. After the war, the Border Security Force (BSF) took over the management of the temple in gratitude and has maintained it ever since. Today, the unexploded bombs are displayed inside the temple courtyard, where you can walk up and see them with your own eyes — making it one of the most powerful and emotional places in all of Rajasthan.

Important Border Note
Since the temple is close to the international border, visitors must carry a valid ID proof. To travel further beyond Tanot toward the actual border post (BP 609), prior official permission from the BSF office in Jaisalmer is required.
